The St. Joseph’s College community supported students enormously on Giving Tuesday, donating more than $50,000 and counting — five times as much as last year’s fundraiser.
The donors supported three student-centered fundraiser campaigns on the national day of giving back.
The campaigns benefited SJC Brooklyn’s Chapels Renovation project, funding renovations to the campus’ two historic chapels; SJC Long Island’s Marian Russo Student Activities Fund, sustaining and enhancing Student Life and Student Activities programming; and individual sports teams on both campuses, helping teams purchase equipment, expand training opportunities and enhance athletic facilities.
Donors also had the option to donate to a general athletics fund.
Flavio Bollag, SJC’s executive director of development, said he is proud of the generosity and support of St. Joseph’s alumni, faculty and staff, parents and friends.
“It is inspiring to see the whole SJC community respond with such generosity and help create new programs and opportunities for the students and the campus,” Bollag said.
As of late Wednesday afternoon, the top donations were to the following campaigns: SJC Long Island Men’s Baseball ($7,380), SJC Brooklyn Chapel’s Renovation ($6,975), SJC Brooklyn Women’s Softball ($6,367), Marian Russo Student Activities Fund ($4,935), and SJC Brooklyn Men’s Baseball ($4,814).
St. Joseph’s College received more than $50,000 donations in total as of Wednesday, blowing last year’s campaign away. On Giving Tuesday 2020, the College raised just shy of $10,000.
Kelly Cortes, manager of Alumni Giving, said she looks forward to seeing students benefit from the donations.
“I was thrilled that so many people came together and gave to the projects they are passionate about,” Cortes said. “#GivingTuesday is a day to transform our communities, and that is exactly what we will be able to do — all because of the support of our donors.”
