SJC Long Island student leaders reflect on the power of positivity in an inspiring video created by the Office of Campus Ministry.
“Sometimes it’s hard to find, but good is there somewhere,” senior Joshua Hammer says in “Instruments of Hope.”
“Smile, say hello to others — you never know what people are going through, so your little act of positivity may be the only good thing in their day. If you can’t find the good in the world, be the good,” he adds.
“Having a positive outlook definitely brings your heart up and just brings others up around you, and I think that’s really important right now,” she said. “I think we are all relying on each other a little bit more in these crazy times, and I think that if everyone had a positive outlook, that we could, in a way, almost change the world and change everyone’s attitude.”

“This year’s been a difficult one to say the least,” Murphy said. “It’s been filled with grief, tension and the great unknown. And it’s during these times that we can find it difficult to keep our mind, body and spirit focused on the bigger picture, but we must work to do so. Something I’ve been trying to do in my day-to-day practice is focusing in on the power of positivity, taking the time to look for a story of hope and affirmation instead of negativity.”
