SJC Brooklyn students looking for ways to stay connected while learning remotely have a new activity to turn to: esports.
Short for electronic sports, esports is a video game competition, where students compete with each other through IMLeagues. Interested students can join play as a free agent or join a team with their peers.
Campana said the program is a great way for SJC Brooklyn students to stay connected outside of the classroom, while having a little fun.
“In the current collegiate environment, it is essential to have alternate ways for students to engage in recreational activities,” Campana said. “It is evident that esports can help students build on their critical thinking and social interaction skills in a fun and competitive way.
“Esports has grown rapidly throughout many colleges,” he continued. “Our goal for SJC Brooklyn is to provide students the opportunity to show their interest and participation in esports, with the possibility of expanding the programming in the future.”
